This gave them a very heavy presence within Asia. When the Portuguese got control of the Straight, anyone who wanted to trade with China had to come through them first. The Straight of Malacca is a choke point that lies within Indonesia. The significance of the Straight of Malacca is it's importance to trade and rich islands. From 1400-1511 the island was controlled by the Malacca Sultanate then eventually taken over and controlled by the Portuguese.Ģ. Once the idea of a shotgun was introduced into fighting, the war had no place left for swords, which was the main weapon the samurai fought with. But the samurai had more power than the peasants. The samurai were controlled by the Daimyo, so you can assume that they were lower than them. During the Warring States period, the samurai took control of old feudal states in Japan. The samurai had a code of honor they had to follow and this impacted fighting in general. In exchange for protecting the land, the serfs/peasants gave the samurai loyalty.Ģ. When they weren't going into battle they were protecting the land that the serfs/peasants worked on. He took over the country of Japan in 1568 after eliminating other rivals/enemies and taking over the city of Kyoto. Oda Nobunaga Oda Nobunaga was a Japanese daimyo and warlord. Without the Ming, China could still be ruled by Mongols today. Overall, the rule of the Ming Dynasty was marked by great expansion of Chinese commerce, centralization of Chinese government, and triumph over the Mongols. Lastly, the Ming isolated trade in China, blocking out all contact with foreigners. Third, during the Ming dynasty, the first of seven voyages of exploration began. Second, because of the emperor's peasant background, many things were improved for the common people such as the irrigation systems and land for farming. First, the Ming brought Confucian ideas back to China which greatly changed Chinese society. During the rule of the Ming, Hongwu and later his son Yonglo changed many things in China that affected the society and China as a whole. During this time, much changed in China.Ģ. After defeating the Mongol's he was named the first Ming emperor. It began when a peasant's son, Hongwu who commanded the rebel army, drove the Mongols out of China. The Ming Dynasty was a Chinese dynasty that ruled from 1368 until 1644. This resulted in the rule of law overcoming the rule of the sword. ![]() It prevented the daimyo from rebelling and led to a more centralized government. It is significant because it helped to tame the daimyo. They were kept there as hostages to keep the daimyo from rebelling.Ģ. There families however, were forced to stay in the capital even when the daimyo left. It was a system where the daimyo were required to spend every other year in the capital Edo. The hostage system was created by Tokugawa Ieyasu.
